PHS Honors Transportation Department
On Friday, January 20th, Parkway High School surprised the Transportation Department with a delicious meal catered by Blue Moon BBQ & Grill in appreciation of their service to the school and commitment to excellence. It was great to share food and fellowship with a part of our school system family that we often do not have the opportunity to enjoy and often fail to express our gratitude. Panthers in the NewsParkway has had a banner week in the local news media. The school is featured with regard to healthier choices in our cafeteria; John Wagner was featured in the Shreveport Times and on KSLA about his published book of poems for his Senior Project; and finally, Joe Ball is KSLA Athlete of the Week! Check out all the great stories about Parkway below: Students at Parkway High School want to enjoy lunch-- but even pizza now has a healthy twist. The school's pizza crust is made of whole grain, and all of the cafeteria's food is baked, not fried. That is one way to tackle students' taste buds, by offering the same foods made over in a more healthful fashion. Check out the story at KTBS by clicking the pic:
John Wagner loves the Spanish language. The Parkway High School senior recently completed and self-published a book of Spanish-language poetry along with an English translation of his work. "Los Pensamientos De Un Extranjero," or "The Thoughts of a Foreigner," is a 45-page collection of poems showcasing the culture, history and specialties of several Spanish-speaking countries throughout Central and South America. Check out his story in the Shreveport Times by clicking the newspaper pic and on KSLA by clicking the pic of John: This week's Landers Dodge Chrysler Jeep Athlete of the Week is Joe Ball. The senior guard from Parkway is a leader on the court averaging in the double digits. Ball is also fearless on the floor, measuring just 5'5". According to Parkway head coach Mike Guess, "he's one of the most competitive players I've ever coached." Check out the full video at KSLA by clicking the pic:
Congratulations Claire ClarkGOLDEN TORCH AWARD The Louisiana High School Athletic Association initiated the Golden Torch Award in 2005 to recognize a former LHSAA student athlete who went on to participate at the collegiate level. The nominee should exemplify the meaning of the term “student athlete,” and serve as a positive example and a role model for today’s high school student athletes. Claire Clark (PHS graduate) is recipient of 2012 LHSAA Golden Torch Award. Panther Football Banquet
On Sunday, January 22, the football team closed out the season with their annual football banquet. Johnny's Catfish catered the event with delicious catfish and chicken. Coach Feaster reflected on what an amazing season the boys had; going 9 & 3 and making it to the second round of the state playoffs. Each player was awarded a certificate for his hard work and dedication. The sophomore players earned their letters this year and received their letter jackets. The senior players were recognized for being talented young men and great leaders of the team. Each senior player received a plaque and their jersey to keep. Coach Feaster received a plaque for a successful first season and each coach received a gift certificate to Ralph and Kacoo’s for a well deserved night out with his family. The Parkway Panther football team and coaching staff is truly an outstanding bunch of men. SROs Love their Panthers!!
